James S. Chase Award for Outstanding Scholarship and Presentation

James S. Chase Award for Outstanding Scholarship and Presentation, with a monetary prize, is chosen by a committee during the conference. Dr. Chase was the first president of the Arkansas Association of College History Teachers in 1975-1976, and a faculty member at the University of Arkansas from 1968 to 1999 (serving as Department Chair from 1970 to 1976). A scholar of 19th century U.S. political history, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1962. Colleagues and students recall his fierce devotion to students’ education and careers.
